4-H Auction:
Saturday August 16, 2008, 7:00 pm.
How to Buy:
1) All 4-H products and animals will be on display in the 4-H Barn for the duration of the Exhibition.
2) All 4-H steer, lamb and swine are available for purchase at the AUCTION held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday August 16, 2008.
3) Animals are auctioned off to the highest bidder per pound live weight basis, e.g. $.80/lb or $80.00 per hundred weight. The animals are weighed on Thursday, August 14, 2008.
4) Payment is to be made to the 4-H office and buyers must state how they will be taking the animals they have purchased from the Exhibition.
5) BUYERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ANIMALS AFTER 4:00 P.M. SUNDAY, August 17, 2008.

NEW THIS YEAR Archery
First time at the fair! The Nechako Valley Archers will be giving demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday. After the demonstrations, kids and adults are welcome to try shooting at balloons.

BC Junior Angus Show
For the second year in a row, the BC Junior Angus Show will be at the NVE. Come out on Friday for the Conformation and Showmanship classes, and Saturday for the chili cook-off. Click here for more info.

Chilli Cook-Off - 3rd Annual
It's on Sunday this year! August 17 - Cooking starts at 10:00 am, judging will be at around 3:00 pm. Download the Entry Form.
Prizes to be won! Contestants to supply all their own ingredients (except the beef), tables, cook stoves, utensils etc. Free to Enter. Limit 50 teams (space limited).

Commerical Exhibits in the Co-op Building
Come shopping at the fair! All weekend long local vendors, from artists to farm equipment suppliers, will be set-up in the Co-op Building and around the fair grounds selling their goods. Click here if you are a vendor interested in renting a booth.

Exhibit Building Special Competitions
The Exhibit Building is hosting two special competitions. Click here for full information.
1) Provincial Competition - BCAAFE Special Competition
The BC Association of Agricultural Fairs and Exhibitions (BCAAFE) invites Exhibitors of all ages to participate in the 2008 “Member’s Choice Awards’. Winning exhibits must travel to the Annual Convention to compete against winning entries from other fairs from around British Columbia. The classes are for a Photography, Cowboy Boot, and a Painted Garden Shovel.
2) National Competition - Country Fair Baking Contest
This contest is open to anyone who bakes with the following sponsors, Robin Hood Flour, Fleischmann’s Yeast, Tenderflake, Crisco.

NEW THIS YEAR Horse Cutting
New this year, horse cutting event in the arena. Horse and rider must cut a cow from the herd and keep it separated for a specified time. Contact Herman Wiebe for more information 567-9927.

Icelandic Horse Demonstrations
Back again this year, junior Icelandic Horse riders will be demonstrating riding techniques at the Icelandic Horse Oval track on Saturday and Sunday.

Junior Ranch Hand Competition

Karaoke
The Karaoke Finals start at 7:00 pm, Friday August 15, 2008. This is a contest where singers from Vanderhoof, Fort St. James and Fraser Lake communities can get involved. Total prize money $1000!
To enter this contest you must prequalify before the fair. 4 contestants will prequalify from each community. The karaoke prequalifying rounds will take place at:
• Fort St. James: Royal Canadian Legion July 4, 18 and August 1
• Fraser Lake: Royal Canadian Legion July 5, 25 and August 8
• Vanderhoof: Buffalo Beach July 16, 23, 30 and August 6.
Times for all prequalifying venues are from 9pm-1am.

Kids Events!!
There are many kids events at the fair. Events include a new Kids' Tent, Scavenger Hunt, Scarecrow Competition, Pet Parade, Mutton Busting and more. This year Uncle Chris the Clown will be at the fair. Uncle Chris will wanders around the grounds and perform onstage engaging kids in songs, stories and fun. Musical Entertainment
The NVE 2008 entertainment line-up features performers from our local communities...
SATURDAY and SUNDAY: Come listen to the Sinkut Mountain Boys, The Rusty Bucket Pluckers, Train Wreck, Jake & Friends and many more. Also there will be performances by our local Square Dancing Club throughout the weekend. For more information, call Jake at 567-4193.

BC'S 150 CELEBRATIONS
It is BC's 150th birthday, so we will have a special display put together by the Women's Institute that will showcase our agricultural heritage, our local pioneers, our fall fair history, and our cultural diversity.
GO GREEN
This youth display about reducing, reusing, recycling and recovering will be of interest for everyone. An educational display on how to conserve and preserve. Find out how you can help do this in your home and community. Sponsored by the BC Ministry of Agriculture.
