The events, days and times listed below are subject to change. Please check the Schedule of Events closer to the fair for the correct times of events.
NEW Exhibit Building Entries on Wednesday August 17, 1:00-8:00pm
The Exhibit Building will be taking entries for their division classes as well as the two special competitions (see below) on Wednesday Augsut 17 (instead of the Thursday as in past years). The change will allow division volunteers to set-up and judge exhibit more efficiently, and will translate into the Exhibit Building being open first thing Friday morning!
Special Competitions
1) Provincial Competition - BCAAFE Special Competition
The BC Association of Agricultural Fairs and Exhibitions (BCAAFE) invites Exhibitors of all ages to participate in the 2010 “Member’s Choice Awards’. Winning exhibits must travel to the Annual Convention to compete against winning entries from other fairs from around British Columbia. The classes are for a Smocking, Whittle, Picture.
2) National Competition - Country Fair Baking Contest
This contest is open to anyone who bakes with the following sponsors, Robin Hood Flour, Fleischmann’s Yeast, Tenderflake.
NEW Cutting Horse Competition - Saturday
$500 added money to be won. Starts at 3:30pm in the indoor arena. Three classes. Entries close August 12. $100 per entry. Contact Elaine 250-567-2839 or Valerie 250-567-7823 for more information.
NEW Dog Agility
Back again after a few years away, will be Dog Agility trials. Contact Pat Dering for more info 250-57-9526.
Seniors' and Teen Day - Friday
This year on Friday all seniors and teenages will get into the fair for a reduced day rate of $4.00. Like last year, there will be a tent and activities for seniors. Teenagers come compete in the Teen Amazing Race, shop, eat and just hang out. We want to see teens and seniors at the fair, so come and take advantage of the reduced rate.
Team Roping - Saturday and Sunday
Come watch and participate in the roping competition in the indoor arena on Saturday and the finals on Sunday. Contact Delmar Siemens for more info at 250-567-9595 or Ray Sayles 250-567-9813.
Stock Dog on Friday and Saturday
Again this year, the stock dog competition is a 2-day event! Come out Friday night at 6:30pm for the evening event, and then again on Saturday at 1:00pm for the afternoon and final competitions.
4-H Auction - Saturday, 7:00 pm
How to Buy:
1) All 4-H products and animals will be on display in the 4-H Barn for the duration of the Exhibition.
2) All 4-H steer, lamb and swine are available for purchase at the AUCTION held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday August 20.
3) Animals are auctioned off to the highest bidder per pound live weight basis, e.g. $.80/lb or $80.00 per hundred weight. The animals are weighed on Thursday, August 18.
4) Payment is to be made to the 4-H office and buyers must state how they will be taking the animals they have purchased from the Exhibition.
5) BUYERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ANIMALS AFTER 4:00 P.M. SUNDAY, August 21.
Commerical Exhibits in the Co-op Building - all weekend
Come shopping at the fair! All weekend long local vendors, from artists to farm equipment suppliers, will be set-up in the Co-op Building and around the fair grounds selling their goods. Click here if you are a vendor interested in renting a booth.
Junior Gymkhana - Saturday, 9:00am
Saturday August 21 at 9:00 am in the indoor arena. This year contestants must pre-register by August 6. Click here to download the entry form.
NEW Kids Events!! - all weekend
There are many new and fun kids events at the fair this year. Events include the Kids Container Garden competition, Lego Village display, Scavenger Hunt, Pet Parade, Karaoke Contest and lots more. Click here for a full list of kids events.
Maze - all weekend
Try to master the walking maze - time yourself against your friends. Not as easy as you would think.
Musical Entertainment - all weekend
The NVE 2011 entertainment line-up features performers from our local communities, including Rosewood's Diary, Sound of the North, KAren Cruise, Willowvale, Jerusha Turgeon, and Mustang Heart. NEW Junior Karaoke Contest
At the bandstand on Friday 6-9pm. Two age groups: Ages 8-12 and 13-16. Contestants must pre-register at the Chamber of Commerce. Entry deadline Augsut 18. Great fun and prizes. Call Lana Olson for more information 250-570-9979.
Teen Amazing Race - Friday
For ages 13-17. Teams of 2 race around the grounds completing challenges. Cash and prizes to be won. $10 to enter. Only 10 teams of 2 in the race so enter early. Download the entry form and liability form.
